Michael Lawhorn

Associate Pastor of Worship & Children

Michael was born and raised in Southwest and Central Virginia.   He was raised in a good home by parents who took him to church regularly.  Michael made his profession of faith in Christ at age 11.  Originally training to be a High School Choral Director God impressed on him the call to ministry.  Michael completed his Associates Degree in Music in 1984, his Bachelor of Music in 1987 when the Lord clearly called him to music ministry. After serving 3 years as Music, Children, & Youth minister, he entered Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary earning the Master of Divinity with Christian Education.  Michael served 4 churches in Virginia and North Carolina before answering God’s call to return to a previous church to serve as Senior Pastor for nine years.  Michael came to Selma in October 2013 to serve as Associate Pastor for Worship, Education and Outreach.  Michael is currently serving as Associate Pastor for Worship and Children’s ministries.

Michael is married to his wonderful wife Stacey who has been his support and encouragement from the beginning.  They have three incredible daughters Kaitlyn born in 1995, Sarah born in 1997 and Rachel born in 2009.  Michael and family are enjoying their time in Dothan, the beautiful sunsets, its close proximity to the beach and the super friendly people.

Michael enjoys many and varied styles of music from Southern Gospel to Classical to Contemporary.  His favorite verse during this season of life is John 10:10 “I came that they may have life and have it to the full.”  God’s call on his life is clear – no matter what area God calls him to serve his passion is to seek the salvation of the lost and to disciple the saved!

Evan Kohen

Student Pastor

Evan is a born and bred South Alabamian. He was blessed to have Godly parents that made church, and more importantly, his relationship with Christ a priority. Evan surrendered his life to Christ at an early age and began to feel God's call to ministry at the age of 13.  He leads his ministry based on the wise words of his youth pastor, "You don't surrender to musc ministry or youth ministry; you surrender to ministry and serve where and how God calls you." At this point in his life, God has definitely called Evan to serve middle and high school students and their familes. His goal is to partner with parents as they invest in their students and see them grow into Godly men and women. He is currently enrolled in the College at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary where he is finishing up his Bachelor's in Pastoral Ministry. Evan has had the pleasure of serving as both Music and Youth Pastor in Florida, North Carolina, and Dothan.

God recently called Evan and his wife, Elizabeth, back to the Dothan area to invest in their own hometown. Both Dothan natives, they moved back in June of 2017 with their two daughters, Larlee Beth and Ella Cate, and have since added the newest addition, Hannah Jo. Evan loves being able to spend time with his girls, but in a house full of pink, he also likes to slip off to the closest body of water or woods for some hunting and fishing.

Evan's "life verse" is Psalm 119:9 that poses a profound question and a simple answer: "How does a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word." This is his drive for ministering to students and familes. That the foundation of God's word would be so deep in their lives that they are able to keep thier lives pure and live according to the truth of God's word.

Bill Brown

Pastoral Care Minister

Bill is a native of the Wiregrass, growing up in Elba and living for several years in Enterprise. Following a ten year period living near Birmingham, Bill returned to the Wiregrass, settling in Dothan in 1999. He had a long career in the Alabama two-year College System and holds several degrees from Enterprise State, Troy University and the University of Alabama.

Following his retirement the Lord lead him into ministering to the homeless. He has a passion for helping those who are less fortunate than most. He maintained a residential ministry for the Homeless for several years until an auto accident and other health issues required him to seek other opportunities of service. In 2014 he found, and filled, a much needed ministry here at Selma. Bill leads the Loving Touch Ministry where he and fellow church members reach out to those members who are not visible in the church due to health or other reasons.

Bill and his wife Cathy have two grown children and two teenage grandchildren who live in the Dothan area.

Emily Cole

Ministry Assistant

Emily was born and raised in Newton, Alabama before moving all the way to Ashford, Alabama after she married her amazing husband Allen. She enjoys spending time at home with her husband, their beautiful daughter, two cats, and one fish. Emily completed her Bachelor's Degree in English at Troy University in 2006 and her Associate's Degree in Management at Bainbridge College in 2015.  She has served as the secretary at Selma

since 2014.

Emily enjoys watching Star Wars, listening to Elvis Presley, and eating cheesecake in her spare time. She has other interests such as watching football or Nascar races with her daughter and learning about astronomy.
