Brent grew up in south Mississippi where his father was a pastor and his mother taught in an elementary school. Brent committed his life to Christ at the age of 9 and sensed the Lord's call to ministry at age 22. He initially pursued the Lord's call as a minister of music for several years, but was later counseled by his pastor and other trusted mentors that his call was more specifically to the preaching ministry. Their counsel was confirmed while Brent was attending a revival meeting with a friend and he sensed the undeniable call of God to the preaching ministry. Following that confirmation, Brent attended New Orleans Seminary where he earned the Master of Divinity degree and later Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky where he earned the Doctor of Ministry degree. Brent served as the pastor of two churches in Mississippi before coming to Selma in 2011.
He and his family moved to Dothan in June of 2011 and immediately fell in love with the people and the town. Many of the activities they enjoy (going to the beach, kayaking, recreational sports, fishing) are readily available and there's usually no shortage of people to enjoy these activities with. Brent has always appreciated the way many have invited his family into their lives and finds great joy in doing life together with the Selma family.
As you might imagine with his musical background, Brent enjoys all genres of music, but has a special affinity for Contemporary Christian bands such as Mercy Me, Casting Crowns, Big Daddy Weave, etc. Although difficult to list a "favorite" verse, in this season of life, Philippians 3:10-14 resonates loudly in his heart. His life's goal is obviously to glorify the Lord in every aspect of his life, but most especially as a disciple-maker that equips others to be disciple makers.
